VARO was formed by the female guitarist Wan Ting in 2004. She was in one of the Taiwan’s best post-rock bands, Tin Pan Alley.
The band name VARO is taken from the Spanish surrealist painter, Remedios Varo, who Wan Ting admires.
VARO previously released 2 full albums, both of which are mixtures of post-rock, electro, punk and break-beats. They are musically diverse throughout, full of energetic pop tunes capturing the very powerful and free spirit of Taiwanese youth culture.
Wan Ting studied in Chicago and took a degree in engineering. She has a very pure talent, as she records, mixes and edits all of the band’s sessions.
Her abilities were fully reflected in the first VARO album Hardcore Beach, critically-acclaimed by UK’s WIRE magazine. VARO played as the opening act for Four Tet in 2006 and gained strong recognition among fans of rock, techno and electronica.
VARO are currently in production for their third album. It will present a completely new form of dance music which only VARO can create − from post-rock to break beats, high-energy, drawing influence from rave culture. And a huge step forward from their first two albums.
