在南中国音乐重镇深圳,一场世界级的爵士乐盛宴即将火热上演:来自美国,荷兰,丹麦,瑞士,法国,英国,德国,挪威,加拿大,澳大利亚,马来西亚,中国等十六个国家和地区的二十一支优秀乐队,将于9月25日至10月15日齐聚华侨城创意文化园北区的B10艺术空间,在这个激情洋溢的金秋为我们献上无比精彩的爵士音乐节。
其中包括在乐坛活跃的时间已经超过了40年的传奇低音大提琴手Eddie Gomez,这位拉丁格莱美奖得主的音乐合作伙伴包括Miles Davis、Dizzy Gillespie、Bill Evans、Gerry Mulligan以及Benny Goodman等。当年作为低音大提琴手加入了Bill Evans(世界爵士乐史上最优秀的钢琴演奏家之一)爵士三重奏乐团,并一炮成名。美国《时代周刊》在为其在乐团的第一张唱片报道时评价道:“Eddie Gomez在他的琴弦上拥有了全世界。”他在世界各地参予录制的唱片更是多达数百张,是当今世界乐坛硕果仅存的爵士大师之一。
而来自欧洲的Rusconi,Gatecrash,Michel Bisceglia Trio,Logic,Simin Tander,In The Country等爵士新贵近些年更是锋芒毕露,横扫各大重要爵士奖项,成为当今世界乐坛最生猛鲜活的中坚力量。
在关注主流爵士乐坛的同时,本次音乐节更是秉承“世界的爵士”这一理念,邀请了令人惊喜的第三世界爵士乐团的加盟,包括来自古巴的顶级民族爵士乐团Estudiantina Ensemble, 来自巴西的接触鼓手Alexandre Cunha,多国音乐家组成的非洲爵士融合乐团Mdungu,立陶宛著名的爵士摇滚乐团Dainius Pulauskas Group, 将使这次音乐节成为一个跨越种族和国度,多种文化强烈互动的乌托邦。
与国外顶级乐团遥相呼应的是来自中国新疆的哈萨克前卫摇滚乐队IZ,他们是中国音乐界的传奇:他们几乎从未登上过国内的主流舞台,但却已经演遍了世界多个国家的大型音乐节。在大部分中国乐迷还刚开始听他们的时候,他们却已经完成了从民族到前卫的华丽转身;他们几乎没有做过像样的宣传,但是却有一大批死忠乐迷仅仅跟随。IZ乐队出现在爵士音乐节里面可能会让许多传统爵士乐迷大跌眼镜,但是正因为他们的加盟,突显了爵士乐的开放气质,而同时也体现了华侨城创意文化园“兼容并蓄,共生共荣”的文化野心。
传统与现代,爵士与民族——多元文化的相互包容和碰撞将集中体现深圳作为中国文化前沿的先锋特性。而这次阵容鼎盛,视野独特的音乐盛事必将成为一个城市的文化名片,在众多的文化活动中展现它卓尔不群的独特魅力。

Peter Scherr is an American double bassist/composer/musical strategist living in Hong Kong. His current focus is the realization of creative music concepts. He has over 20 years professional experience ranging from positions with symphony orchestras through jazz and avant-garde music performance and composition. He has performed and recorded with leading creative musicians such as his brother Tony Scherr, drum in areas of unique interest. His current focus is the realization of creative music concepts. He produces and performs in a series of concerts in Hong Kong, bringing together emerging artists on the vanguard of creative music, composing, performing and recording original works. One of his long-term goals is the establishment of a common practice of creative music in China, drawing on the talent of the most interesting improvisers from around the world.
Peter Scherr 是旅居香港的美国低音大提琴家/作曲家/音乐策划人.他目前专注于创意音乐概念的实践,拥有20多年专业经验,从交响乐演奏到爵士和先锋音乐的表演和作曲。

Alexandre Cunha is the first musician in the Odery family. His passion for Drums inspired his father to create the brand that carries the name of the family, and today is known as
one of the best Drums in the world, the Odery Drums.
Professional Drummer for 22 years, Alexandre has always considered musical excellence as his utmost goal. He lived in Germany from 1994 to 1997 and played in the best jazz clubs.
Since 2004 Alexandre has hosted an editorial section in Modern Drummer Brazil, the most prestigious drum magazine in the country. In 2005, his debut record, Batepapo, gathered some of the best Brazilian musicians such as Airto Moreira and Alegre Correa to present traditional Brazilian music with a fusion approach. This CD became one of the top ten CD’s of 2005 in Smooth jazz and more. In 2007, Alexandre released his second CD, “batepapo 2 ao vivo em studio”, a live record with his quintet.
In 2008, he released a DVD about drum soloing and his band was the first Brazilian group to play at the Shanghai International Jazz Festival, one of the most important festivals in Asia, and later released a DVD of this performance, Live in Shanghai, before travelling through China to play at many jazz clubs.

Singer/guitar player Ricardo "Aristides" Bekema founded the Estudiantina Ensemble in dedication and preservation of danzon music in the Estudiantina tradition from Santiago de Cuba in east Cuba. Estudiantina groups were formed by students who roamed the streets and local festivities, played the popular version of danzon during the late 19th century.
In addition to the vocals, this style uses two guitars, the tres-guitar, bass, trumpet or flute, claves, guiro, maracas and traditional pailitascubanas.
In 2007, the ensemble received an invitation from Buena Vista Social Club-member Eliades Ochoa to play at the prestigious'Festival de la Trova Pepe Sanchez' in Santiago de Cuba. They were performing on the legendary stages and in front of the camera's of the Cuban State Television and an ecstatic Cuban crowd.
Estudiantina组合是由领隊Ricardo “Aristides" Bekema一手建立,为了传承及保护东古巴的圣地亚戈類別的坦桑音乐。Estudiantina组合形式最初是由街头和为当地节日表演的学生组成的,演奏19世纪末流行坦桑音乐。后来发展成为专门采集及改进失传坦桑音乐运动组合.
除了声乐部分外,这组合形式除配有三名吉他手外,还有低音吉他、喇叭、笛子、响棒、锯琴、沙錘和其它传统乐器,才能製造出强勁的節奏
感覚出來。
2007年,该团应著名的美丽村俱乐部的邀请,到古巴圣地亚哥著名的节目'Festival de la Trova Pepe Sanchez' 表演,在这传奇的舞台演奏,並被古巴电视台摄录,同時赢得了古巴民众的狂热追捧。

More a collective than traditional band, the group’s five official members: Zhang Zhang on keys, DJ Shiva on the decks, Liu Yang on bass, Wen Xiang on guitar and Da Wei on drums change and create unpredictable fusion jamming that reflects the range of cultural flavors in Beijing’s arts and music scene. You might hear a twisted wa-wa version of the Mission Impossible theme morph into blues before dissolving into an ocean of ambient electronic crackles. While many are drawn to this intensely psychedelic sonic experience, others are drawn to Hua’s philosophy towards free-form music and collaboration, as much as to its consummate musicianship. If a ‘60s-style counterculture ever takes off in China, this fusion of Beijing’s musical voices will provide the soundtrack. Hua (化) represents a new era of inspirational, multicultural art through the international medium of sound and color to leave every participant with a deeper impression of culture, art and music.
他们不是传统的乐队,他们的音乐很丰富,他们的现场很带劲!2009年4月,当Acid live(化现场)首次在北京“两个好朋友”酒吧登台时,所有的观众都玩疯了。独立、前卫、时髦、自由、迷幻……这支以“化”为主题的现场乐队,诞生之初就给充斥着各类演出的京城带来不一样的声音。

A culmination of this trio’s artistic projects, Trio d’en Bas was formed in 2003 to play “high-brow music for low-brow France” or simple, music that has been labeled yet is heard to describe.
Over the pass five years, they have done concerts in their original trio from and hybrid forms born out of collaboration with other artists such as music and circus, music and theater, music and painting, music and dance, music and video….
Their music ID definitely jazz influenced yet unclassifiable; a joyful mix of original compositions with sudden improvisations, angry political outbursts and unexpected humor, not to mention, the “revisitations” of borrowed themes from the annals of jazz, French pop and sometimes even international pop music.
Trio D’en Bas is the winner of Jazz Migration Contest,2010 Conferred by AFIJMA(the Association of Innovative Jazz and Contemporary Music Festivals) and the FSJ(Federation of Jazz Venues).

Dutch trumpeter Eric Vloeimans (born 24 March 1963), one of Europe's best, prefers recording originals on his many award winning CD's although he can also be heard performing others. Vloeimans started in classical music but got sucked into jazz and later, graduated with distinction in 1988. He continued his studies in New York under Donald Bryd and gained experience with the big bands of Frank Foster and Mercer Ellington. This multi-award winner has played with jazz figures from Holland, the US, Germany and quite a few others (e.g. Michiel Borstlap, John Taylor, Marc Johnson, Nguyen Le, Lars Danielson and Jimmy Haslip).
His quartet, Gatecrash, inspires visions of breaking boundaries and crashing through barricades with reckless abandon. Their electronic sound, infused with delicious Fender Rhodes textures and effects, is captivating as Vloeimans’ trumpet provides companionship through it all.

Dainius Pulauskas Group was formed in 1994 and debuted as a quintet but, by 1996, had evolved into a sextet and before long became one of the most significant Lithuanian jazz groups and winning international acknowledgement. Over the years, DPG has performed in a number of European countries as well as in jazz festivals in China, India, Indonesia and USA.
Currently, Dainius Pulauskas Group is well known not only to Lithuanian but also for foreign audiences and performs more abroad than in Lithuania. Its performances are usually well received by audience and critics. The Finnish jazz critic R.Haapsamo called their music "a powerful pulse of the modern jazz". The Swedish critic Bo Levender states that "Pulauskas, together with his colleagues creates the best fusion as it can be. The variety of their musical expression is 'giddy'. These are the somersaults of tearaway swinging and rhythms, and… the most genuine, pure and unembellished jazz."
Dainius Pulauskas Group is characterized by their use electronic and acoustic instruments to create a very eloquent music space; a very peculiar version of fusion. The Group is unique because of its extreme ensemble plus the collective mastery of all the players; all professional musicians who very frequently appear on Lithuanian jazz stages and who are excellent when performing together or with different groups.

Mdungu is a nine piece band based in Amsterdam. The musicians, from Holland, Luxembourg, Spain and Gambia, perform their music with skill, flair and energy that is irresistible to any audience. African music by Mdungu is a strong musical experience: it funks, it grooves, it moves your feet and feeds your soul. The percussion is dazzling, the melodies enchanting and the vocals, captivating, creating a chemical reaction that makes people start dancing and romancing. The moment Mdungu kicks off and the music takes over; there is no future, no past, no borders, no passport. The groove is king, and that’s the way it should be.
Mdungu was founded in 2003 by alto saxophonist Thijs van Milligen. From the start Mdungu was a most welcome guest on international stages and festivals of world music, pop and jazz scenes. After the release of their debut album in 2009, they toured intensively in Holland and abroad. A few of the venues they played in are: the dlr Festival of World Cultures, Ireland; Frequenzen Festival, Germany; Openluchttheater Rivierenhof, Antwerp; the Music Meeting, Nijmegen; Amsterdam Roots; Dunya Festival, Rotterdam ; Eurosonic/Noorderslag and Paradiso, Amsterdam. Mdungu receives financial support from the Music Xport programme for 2010/2011: an initiative of Buma Cultuur and Music Center the Netherlands (MCN) that aims to enhance the profile of Dutch artists abroad, andhence to extend their possibilities.

In The Country belongs to no musical world as their music contains inspiration from a lot of different genres.
Best known for being the orchestra in Susanna and the Magical Orchestra, Morten Qvenild has been a member of both Shining and Jaga Jazzist and is a long term member of Solveig Slettahjell’s Slow Motion Orchestra. He formed In The Country with bass-player Roger Arntzen and drummer Pal Hausken at the Norwgian Academy of Music in Oslo in 2003.
Since then, they have been selected as best young jazz artists in Norway, played concerts in Europe, USA and Asia and, released three albums and a concert to much critical acclaim. Downbeat called their debut album “Whiteout” was voted one of the “Best Releases of 2009”.
听In The Country,不会有似曾相识的感觉,他们的音乐受不同风格的启发,不乏创意灵感,但每每在灵感激发的一刻过后,你会发觉那音乐仍然是一贯平实不造作。这三个年轻人也确实不赖,一出道便被选为挪威最佳年轻爵士乐手,随即出版了一张被《Downbeat》誉为欧洲全年度中最出类及突出的唱片。

The Simin Tander Quartet represents a new sound in the European jazz landscape:mysterious, surprising, rhythmically varying and tenderly beautiful but at the same time strong and very pointy. This German-Afghan leader of the quartet sings “stories without words,” purely using her voice and a very broad palette of sounds. Besides her richness in sounds, she also uses contemporary lyrics in different languages and sometimes even creates her very personal “fantasy language”. Expressive, free improvisation united with delicate singer-songwriter elements with a hint of oriental mysticism are characteristics of her style. The Simin Tander Quartet reveals four creative musicians that form a very well balanced union; each with his own voice and ability to express it within Simin’s compositions.

The album itself was selected as the second best Jazz album of the year worldwide in 2009 the group recorded a soundtrack for the film “Mensch Kotschie”. Li Xiaochuan is a jazz trumpeter and composer, who has become one of China's premier jazz
musicians since his emergence in 2001.However, his talent in jazz and creative musical expression, soon made him one of the most sought-after jazz musicians in China. After playing his first jazz concert in 2004, he began to work with the Shanghai Jazz Orchestra and played at Shanghai Jazz Festival 2006 and 2007.Also during this time he lead the group "E-Groove", a Shanghai-based jazz band that performed original music, fusion, and jazz standards. For this project he collaborated with outstanding musicians and singers such as Coco Zhao, Nils Landgren, Wang Hao, Erica Lee, Jasmine Chen, Chih-Peng Chen, Tian Guoan Etc.
In 2007, he left Shanghai and headed for Texas to pursue his Master degree in University of North Texas. There he received the Richard Dalrymple Memorial Jazz Trumpet Scholarship and was the first Asian musician

Pianist,composer and arranger Michel Bisceglia is one of the most important and most vigorous musicians from Belgium. In 1996, at the age 26, he started his current trio that on their CD “About Stories”(RCA Victor) had the privilege to work with Randy Brecker and Bob Mintzer. Since 1997, he’s recorded only three CDs with his trio but has played in world-famous jazz festivals such as the Rochester International Jazzfestivals(USA), the Guimaraes Jazz Festival (Portugal) with Dewey Redman and the Ulverston Music Festival in UK. The three CDs are one after the other masterpieces; exercises in subtilized meditations on intangible melodies.
A typical characteristic of Michel Bisceglia is his working with artists outside the jazz world. In a coproduction with DJ Buscemi a new album was recorded with live ensemble. This album was released in September 2008 on Blue Note Records.

新疆的哈萨克族音乐家马木尔和他的IZ乐队在中国的独立音乐界是一个具有传奇色彩的名字。他们的演出几乎不做宣传,却总能吸引众多的追随者。他们在国内的主流舞台少有登场的机会,却受邀在国外各大音乐节上表演。他们的哈萨克语歌词很少有人能听懂,但他们的音乐却可以跨越语言的障碍而打动不同文化背景的观众。
马木尔出生于新疆奇台县,在家里十个兄弟姐妹中排行第四。像大多数哈萨克人一样,他从小与动物为伴,经常在夏天赶着牛羊到高山草场上放牧。马木尔从父亲的冬不拉弹唱和电台广播中接受了最初的音乐教育,长大一点之后又从上大学的哥哥那里得到一把红棉吉他,从而开始了最初的音乐创作。
上个世纪九十年代,马木尔在乌鲁木齐组建了他的摇滚乐队。那时他的音乐受到了一些西方艺术摇滚乐队和前卫艺术家的影响,但其低沉浑厚的嗓音与充满地下气息的电吉他演奏马上就确立了自己独特的风格。
为了生存,马木尔曾经有过一段在深圳的酒吧里驻唱的经历。然而因为无法放弃自己的音乐理想,他离开了那个商业化的环境。2002年,马木尔来到了北京并组建了IZ乐队。经过几年的漂泊以后,哈萨克民间音乐又回到了马木尔的血液当中。他开始重新演绎记忆中那些不知名作者创作的歌曲,并为古老的哈萨克诗歌谱曲。“IZ”在哈萨克语中意为“脚印”,它象征着乐队对于传统的探究与反思。
然而, IZ乐队的音乐并非所谓的“原生态”民歌。他们从哈萨克民间音乐出发,又融合了当代的音乐手法,从而创造出一种独一无二的音乐语言。他们没有受过学院式的刻板教育,而只知忠实于自己的心灵。他们不像哈萨克传统民间艺人“阿肯”那样满足于简单的冬不拉弹唱,而是把哈萨克传统乐器与西方乐器自然地结合在一起,因为他们与父辈相比已经拥有了更为丰富的世界。
2008年,马木尔搬回了乌鲁木齐,并重组了IZ乐队。两年后他们回到北京演出时,人们惊奇地发现,他们又一次前进了。现在IZ乐队的音乐变得更加黑暗深沉,直指人的灵魂深处。作为打击乐器的铁箱子、冬不拉的不协和音以及充满张力的吉他噪音,使他们的音乐少了一分柔美,却多了一分震撼。乐队的歌词也愈加锋利,甚至出现了“你的归宿是地狱”这样充满警世意味的句子。
近年来,IZ在国际舞台上的活动越来越多。与美国班卓琴大师Béla Fleck、瑞士的哈萨克先锋女歌手Saadet Türköz等人的合作,以及在欧洲的一系列巡演为他们带来了更宽广的视野。在2009年英国举行的WOMAD音乐节上,他们成为了所有演出乐队中在现场销售CD最多的一支。
然而马木尔的生活并没有太大变化。他仍然生活在乌鲁木齐,并不时回到属于哈萨克人的草原和高山牧场,让自己安静下来。马木尔说,只有这样,他才能继续创造属于自己的声音。
Mamer and IZ, a Kazakh band from Xinjiang, are a legend in China’s independent music scene. Despite the fact that their shows are rarely advertised, they nonetheless have attracted many followers. They have few opportunities for mainstream performances in China, but have been invited to many of the world’s biggest music festivals. Even though few members of the audience are able to understand the Kazakh lyrics, their music transcends the limits of language to touch listeners from a variety of cultural backgrounds.
Born in Qitai county, Xinjiang, Mamer is the fourth of 10 children. Like many Kazakhs, he spent his childhood in the company of animals. Each summer he led cattle and sheep to graze. His earliest musical education was from the radio and the sound of his father's dombra. When he was a bit older, he received a cheap Hongmian guitar from his elder brother, a college student. This was when his musical innovation began.
In the 1990s, Mamer formed a rock band in Urumqi. At that time his music was influenced by some Western art rock groups and avant-garde artists. His deep voice together with his decidedly underground electric guitar sound established his unique style.
In order to make a living, Mamer moved to Shenzhen and played the bar circuit there for some time. Later, unable to drop his desires to play his own music, he left that commercial environment. In 2002, Mamer arrived in Beijing and formed IZ. After he drifted around for a few years, traditional Kazakh music made its way back into his heart. He began performing songs of anonymous origin that he remembered, and creating melodies to go with ancient Kazakh poetry. In Kazakh language, IZ means “footprint”, a symbol that the band is probing and reflecting on the tradition.
However, the music of IZ is not traditional. Rather IZ begins with traditional music and, using the techniques and methods of contemporary music, creates a unique musical language. They have not received academic musical training, rather they are faithful to their intuition. They are not like the traditional Kazakh minstrel, the “Aken”, happy to play simple dombra tunes and sing along to them. Rather, they are looking for a natural conjoining of traditional Kazakh instruments with western instruments. Because, compared with the generation before them, they live in a much more complex world.
In 2008, Mamer returned to Urumqi, and re-formed IZ. After two years, the group came again to Beijing, and many fans were surprised to find that IZ had taken another step forward. Today the music of IZ is darker, graver. It finds its way into the deepest corners of your soul. The metal box that IZ uses for percussion, the discordant notes of the dombra and the massive tension in the guitar distortion make IZ’s music less gently beautiful, but more forceful. The lyrics to IZ’s songs are also more incisive, such as “Your Destination…”, a song that warns of perils to the soul.
In recent years, IZ has found increasing opportunities to play internationally. Collaborating with American banjo master Béla Fleck and with Kazakh Swiss improvisational vocalist Saadet Türköz, and a series of European tours have expanded IZ’s view. At WOMAD UK in 2009, they sold more CDs at their show than any other band.
Despite all this, Mamer’s life has not changed much. He still lives in Urumqi. He still returns frequently to the grasslands and mountains of the Kazakhs of that region, where he finds peace. Mamer says, only in this way can he continue on with a sound that is truly his own.

Mr HANRIOT holds a Masters Degree in Electronic Engineering and Audio Signal Processing from the University of Nancy, France and a Degree in Professional Music from Berklee College of Music, Boston (USA).
Mr. Hanriot would generally be considered a latecomer to the world of music. After earning his Master’s Degree in Electronics & Digital Audio Processing at the age of 21, his life took an unexpected turn as he sat at the piano for the first time in his life. Then at this late age - 21 years of age, he started studying music and playing the piano.Within only a few years, Fulbright recipient, French pianist pianist, composer, producer and arranger Cedric HANRIOT has performed and recorded with luminaries such as drummer Terri Lyne CARRINGTON (Stevie WONDER, Herbie HANCOCK), bass player John PATITUCCI (STING, Wayne SHORTER), bass player/singer Me’shell NDEGEOCELLO, drummer Cindy BLACKMAN (Lenny KRAVITZ), saxophonist Joe LOVANO, Grammy Awards winning singer DeeDee BRIDGEWATER to name a few.
Cedric HANRIOT has appeared at many prestigious performance venues worldwide including The Iridium New York (USA), the Vancouver International Jazz Festival (Canada), the Tanglewood International Jazz Festival (USA), the Universal Exposition 2010 (Shanghai, China) and the Jazz a Vienne Festival (F). 在关注主流爵士乐坛的同时,本次音乐节更是秉承“世界的爵士”这一理念,邀请了令人惊喜的第三世界爵士乐团的加盟,包括来自古巴的顶级民族爵士乐团Estudiantina Ensemble, 来自巴西的接触鼓手Alexandre Cunha,多国音乐家组成的非洲爵士融合乐团Mdungu,立陶宛著名的爵士摇滚乐团Dainius Pulauskas Group, 将使这次音乐节成为一个跨越种族和国度,多种文化强烈互动的乌托邦。
与国外顶级乐团遥相呼应的是来自中国新疆的哈萨克前卫摇滚乐队IZ,他们是中国音乐界的传奇:他们几乎从未登上过国内的主流舞台,但却已经演遍了世界多个国家的大型音乐节。在大部分中国乐迷还刚开始听他们的时候,他们却已经完成了从民族到前卫的华丽转身;他们几乎没有做过像样的宣传,但是却有一大批死忠乐迷仅仅跟随。IZ乐队出现在爵士音乐节里面可能会让许多传统爵士乐迷大跌眼镜,但是正因为他们的加盟,突显了爵士乐的开放气质,而同时也体现了华侨城创意文化园“兼容并蓄,共生共荣”的文化野心。
传统与现代,爵士与民族——多元文化的相互包容和碰撞将集中体现深圳作为中国文化前沿的先锋特性。而这次阵容鼎盛,视野独特的音乐盛事必将成为一个城市的文化名片,在众多的文化活动中展现它卓尔不群的独特魅力。

Peter Scherr is an American double bassist/composer/musical strategist living in Hong Kong. His current focus is the realization of creative music concepts. He has over 20 years professional experience ranging from positions with symphony orchestras through jazz and avant-garde music performance and composition. He has performed and recorded with leading creative musicians such as his brother Tony Scherr, drum in areas of unique interest. His current focus is the realization of creative music concepts. He produces and performs in a series of concerts in Hong Kong, bringing together emerging artists on the vanguard of creative music, composing, performing and recording original works. One of his long-term goals is the establishment of a common practice of creative music in China, drawing on the talent of the most interesting improvisers from around the world.
Peter Scherr 是旅居香港的美国低音大提琴家/作曲家/音乐策划人.他目前专注于创意音乐概念的实践,拥有20多年专业经验,从交响乐演奏到爵士和先锋音乐的表演和作曲。

Alexandre Cunha is the first musician in the Odery family. His passion for Drums inspired his father to create the brand that carries the name of the family, and today is known as
one of the best Drums in the world, the Odery Drums.
Professional Drummer for 22 years, Alexandre has always considered musical excellence as his utmost goal. He lived in Germany from 1994 to 1997 and played in the best jazz clubs.
Since 2004 Alexandre has hosted an editorial section in Modern Drummer Brazil, the most prestigious drum magazine in the country. In 2005, his debut record, Batepapo, gathered some of the best Brazilian musicians such as Airto Moreira and Alegre Correa to present traditional Brazilian music with a fusion approach. This CD became one of the top ten CD’s of 2005 in Smooth jazz and more. In 2007, Alexandre released his second CD, “batepapo 2 ao vivo em studio”, a live record with his quintet.
In 2008, he released a DVD about drum soloing and his band was the first Brazilian group to play at the Shanghai International Jazz Festival, one of the most important festivals in Asia, and later released a DVD of this performance, Live in Shanghai, before travelling through China to play at many jazz clubs.

Singer/guitar player Ricardo "Aristides" Bekema founded the Estudiantina Ensemble in dedication and preservation of danzon music in the Estudiantina tradition from Santiago de Cuba in east Cuba. Estudiantina groups were formed by students who roamed the streets and local festivities, played the popular version of danzon during the late 19th century.
In addition to the vocals, this style uses two guitars, the tres-guitar, bass, trumpet or flute, claves, guiro, maracas and traditional pailitascubanas.
In 2007, the ensemble received an invitation from Buena Vista Social Club-member Eliades Ochoa to play at the prestigious'Festival de la Trova Pepe Sanchez' in Santiago de Cuba. They were performing on the legendary stages and in front of the camera's of the Cuban State Television and an ecstatic Cuban crowd.
Estudiantina组合是由领隊Ricardo “Aristides" Bekema一手建立,为了传承及保护东古巴的圣地亚戈類別的坦桑音乐。Estudiantina组合形式最初是由街头和为当地节日表演的学生组成的,演奏19世纪末流行坦桑音乐。后来发展成为专门采集及改进失传坦桑音乐运动组合.
除了声乐部分外,这组合形式除配有三名吉他手外,还有低音吉他、喇叭、笛子、响棒、锯琴、沙錘和其它传统乐器,才能製造出强勁的節奏

You might hear a twisted wa-wa version of the Mission Impossible theme morph into blues before dissolving into an ocean of ambient electronic crackles. While many are drawn to this intensely psychedelic sonic experience, others are drawn to Hua’s philosophy towards free-form music and collaboration, as much as to its consummate musicianship. If a ‘60s-style counterculture ever takes off in China, this fusion of Beijing’s musical voices will provide the soundtrack. Hua (化) represents a new era of inspirational, multicultural art through the international medium of sound and color to leave every participant with a deeper impression of culture, art and music.

A culmination of this trio’s artistic projects, Trio d’en Bas was formed in 2003 to play “high-brow music for low-brow France” or simple, music that has been labeled yet is heard to describe.
Over the pass five years, they have done concerts in their original trio from and hybrid forms born out of collaboration with other artists such as music and circus, music and theater, music and painting, music and dance, music and video….
Their music ID definitely jazz influenced yet unclassifiable; a joyful mix of original compositions with sudden improvisations, angry political outbursts and unexpected humor, not to mention, the “revisitations” of borrowed themes from the annals of jazz, French pop and sometimes even international pop music.
Trio D’en Bas is the winner of Jazz Migration Contest,2010 Conferred by AFIJMA(the Association of Innovative Jazz and Contemporary Music Festivals) and the FSJ(Federation of Jazz Venues).

Dutch trumpeter Eric Vloeimans (born 24 March 1963), one of Europe's best, prefers recording originals on his many award winning CD's although he can also be heard performing others. Vloeimans started in classical music but got sucked into jazz and later, graduated with distinction in 1988. He continued his studies in New York under Donald Bryd and gained experience with the big bands of Frank Foster and Mercer Ellington. This multi-award winner has played with jazz figures from Holland, the US, Germany and quite a few others (e.g. Michiel Borstlap, John Taylor, Marc Johnson, Nguyen Le, Lars Danielson and Jimmy Haslip).
His quartet, Gatecrash, inspires visions of breaking boundaries and crashing through barricades with reckless abandon. Their electronic sound, infused with delicious Fender Rhodes textures and effects, is captivating as Vloeimans’ trumpet provides companionship through it all.

Dainius Pulauskas Group was formed in 1994 and debuted as a quintet but, by 1996, had evolved into a sextet and before long became one of the most significant Lithuanian jazz groups and winning international acknowledgement. Over the years, DPG has performed in a number of European countries as well as in jazz festivals in China, India, Indonesia and USA.
Currently, Dainius Pulauskas Group is well known not only to Lithuanian but also for foreign audiences and performs more abroad than in Lithuania. Its performances are usually well received by audience and critics. The Finnish jazz critic R.Haapsamo called their music "a powerful pulse of the modern jazz". The Swedish critic Bo Levender states that "Pulauskas, together with his colleagues creates the best fusion as it can be. The variety of their musical expression is 'giddy'. These are the somersaults of tearaway swinging and rhythms, and… the most genuine, pure and unembellished jazz."
Dainius Pulauskas Group is characterized by their use electronic and acoustic instruments to create a very eloquent music space; a very peculiar version of fusion. The Group is unique because of its extreme ensemble plus the collective mastery of all the players; all professional musicians who very frequently appear on Lithuanian jazz stages and who are excellent when performing together or with different groups.

Mdungu is a nine piece band based in Amsterdam. The musicians, from Holland, Luxembourg, Spain and Gambia, perform their music with skill, flair and energy that is irresistible to any audience. The percussion is dazzling, the melodies enchanting and the vocals, captivating, creating a chemical reaction that makes people start dancing and romancing. Mdungu was founded in 2003 by alto saxophonist Thijs van Milligen. From the start Mdungu was a most welcome guest on international stages and festivals of world music, pop and jazz scenes. After the release of their debut album in 2009, they toured intensively in Holland and abroad. A few of the venues they played in are: the dlr Festival of World Cultures, Ireland; Frequenzen Festival, Germany; Openluchttheater Rivierenhof, Antwerp; the Music Meeting, Nijmegen; Amsterdam Roots; Dunya Festival, Rotterdam ; Eurosonic/Noorderslag and Paradiso, Amsterdam. Mdungu receives financial support from the Music Xport programme for 2010/2011: an initiative of Buma Cultuur and Music Center the Netherlands (MCN) that aims to enhance the profile of Dutch artists abroad, andhence to extend their possibilities.

In The Country belongs to no musical world as their music contains inspiration from a lot of different genres.
Best known for being the orchestra in Susanna and the Magical Orchestra, Morten Qvenild has been a member of both Shining and Jaga Jazzist and is a long term member of Solveig Slettahjell’s Slow Motion Orchestra. He formed In The Country with bass-player Roger Arntzen and drummer Pal Hausken at the Norwgian Academy of Music in Oslo in 2003.
Since then, they have been selected as best young jazz artists in Norway, played concerts in Europe, USA and Asia and, released three albums and a concert to much critical acclaim. Downbeat called their debut album “Whiteout” was voted one of the “Best Releases of 2009”.

The Simin Tander Quartet represents a new sound in the European jazz landscape:mysterious, surprising, rhythmically varying and tenderly beautiful but at the same time strong and very pointy. This German-Afghan leader of the quartet sings “stories without words,” purely using her voice and a very broad palette of sounds. Besides her richness in sounds, she also uses contemporary lyrics in different languages and sometimes even creates her very personal “fantasy language”. Expressive, free improvisation united with delicate singer-songwriter elements with a hint of oriental mysticism are characteristics of her style. The Simin Tander Quartet reveals four creative musicians that form a very well balanced union; each with his own voice and ability to express it within Simin’s compositions.

Li Xiaochuan is a jazz trumpeter and composer, who has become one of China's premier jazz
musicians since his emergence in 2001.However, his talent in jazz and creative musical expression, soon made him one of the most sought-after jazz musicians in China. After playing his first jazz concert in 2004, he began to work with the Shanghai Jazz Orchestra and played at Shanghai Jazz Festival 2006 and 2007.Also during this time he lead the group "E-Groove", a Shanghai-based jazz band that performed original music, fusion, and jazz standards. For this project he collaborated with outstanding musicians and singers such as Coco Zhao, Nils Landgren, Wang Hao, Erica Lee, Jasmine Chen, Chih-Peng Chen, Tian Guoan Etc.

Pianist,composer and arranger Michel Bisceglia is one of the most important and most vigorous musicians from Belgium. In 1996, at the age 26, he started his current trio that on their CD “About Stories”(RCA Victor) had the privilege to work with Randy Brecker and Bob Mintzer. Since 1997, he’s recorded only three CDs with his trio but has played in world-famous jazz festivals such as the Rochester International Jazzfestivals(USA), the Guimaraes Jazz Festival (Portugal) with Dewey Redman and the Ulverston Music Festival in UK. The three CDs are one after the other masterpieces; exercises in subtilized meditations on intangible melodies.
A typical characteristic of Michel Bisceglia is his working with artists outside the jazz world. In a coproduction with DJ Buscemi a new album was recorded with live ensemble. This album was released in September 2008 on Blue Note Records.

新疆的哈萨克族音乐家马木尔和他的IZ乐队在中国的独立音乐界是一个具有传奇色彩的名字。他们的演出几乎不做宣传,却总能吸引众多的追随者。他们在国内的主流舞台少有登场的机会,却受邀在国外各大音乐节上表演。他们的哈萨克语歌词很少有人能听懂,但他们的音乐却可以跨越语言的障碍而打动不同文化背景的观众。
马木尔出生于新疆奇台县,在家里十个兄弟姐妹中排行第四。像大多数哈萨克人一样,他从小与动物为伴,经常在夏天赶着牛羊到高山草场上放牧。马木尔从父亲的冬不拉弹唱和电台广播中接受了最初的音乐教育,长大一点之后又从上大学的哥哥那里得到一把红棉吉他,从而开始了最初的音乐创作。
上个世纪九十年代,马木尔在乌鲁木齐组建了他的摇滚乐队。那时他的音乐受到了一些西方艺术摇滚乐队和前卫艺术家的影响,但其低沉浑厚的嗓音与充满地下气息的电吉他演奏马上就确立了自己独特的风格。
为了生存,马木尔曾经有过一段在深圳的酒吧里驻唱的经历。然而因为无法放弃自己的音乐理想,他离开了那个商业化的环境。2002年,马木尔来到了北京并组建了IZ乐队。经过几年的漂泊以后,哈萨克民间音乐又回到了马木尔的血液当中。他开始重新演绎记忆中那些不知名作者创作的歌曲,并为古老的哈萨克诗歌谱曲。“IZ”在哈萨克语中意为“脚印”,它象征着乐队对于传统的探究与反思。
然而, IZ乐队的音乐并非所谓的“原生态”民歌。他们从哈萨克民间音乐出发,又融合了当代的音乐手法,从而创造出一种独一无二的音乐语言。他们没有受过学院式的刻板教育,而只知忠实于自己的心灵。他们不像哈萨克传统民间艺人“阿肯”那样满足于简单的冬不拉弹唱,而是把哈萨克传统乐器与西方乐器自然地结合在一起,因为他们与父辈相比已经拥有了更为丰富的世界。
2008年,马木尔搬回了乌鲁木齐,并重组了IZ乐队。两年后他们回到北京演出时,人们惊奇地发现,他们又一次前进了。现在IZ乐队的音乐变得更加黑暗深沉,直指人的灵魂深处。作为打击乐器的铁箱子、冬不拉的不协和音以及充满张力的吉他噪音,使他们的音乐少了一分柔美,却多了一分震撼。乐队的歌词也愈加锋利,甚至出现了“你的归宿是地狱”这样充满警世意味的句子。
近年来,IZ在国际舞台上的活动越来越多。与美国班卓琴大师Béla Fleck、瑞士的哈萨克先锋女歌手Saadet Türköz等人的合作,以及在欧洲的一系列巡演为他们带来了更宽广的视野。在2009年英国举行的WOMAD音乐节上,他们成为了所有演出乐队中在现场销售CD最多的一支。
然而马木尔的生活并没有太大变化。他仍然生活在乌鲁木齐,并不时回到属于哈萨克人的草原和高山牧场,让自己安静下来。马木尔说,只有这样,他才能继续创造属于自己的声音。
Mamer and IZ, a Kazakh band from Xinjiang, are a legend in China’s independent music scene. Despite the fact that their shows are rarely advertised, they nonetheless have attracted many followers. They have few opportunities for mainstream performances in China, but have been invited to many of the world’s biggest music festivals. Even though few members of the audience are able to understand the Kazakh lyrics, their music transcends the limits of language to touch listeners from a variety of cultural backgrounds.
Born in Qitai county, Xinjiang, Mamer is the fourth of 10 children. Like many Kazakhs, he spent his childhood in the company of animals. Each summer he led cattle and sheep to graze. His earliest musical education was from the radio and the sound of his father's dombra. When he was a bit older, he received a cheap Hongmian guitar from his elder brother, a college student. This was when his musical innovation began.
In the 1990s, Mamer formed a rock band in Urumqi. At that time his music was influenced by some Western art rock groups and avant-garde artists. His deep voice together with his decidedly underground electric guitar sound established his unique style.
In order to make a living, Mamer moved to Shenzhen and played the bar circuit there for some time. Later, unable to drop his desires to play his own music, he left that commercial environment. In 2002, Mamer arrived in Beijing and formed IZ. After he drifted around for a few years, traditional Kazakh music made its way back into his heart. He began performing songs of anonymous origin that he remembered, and creating melodies to go with ancient Kazakh poetry. In Kazakh language, IZ means “footprint”, a symbol that the band is probing and reflecting on the tradition.
However, the music of IZ is not traditional. Rather IZ begins with traditional music and, using the techniques and methods of contemporary music, creates a unique musical language. They have not received academic musical training, rather they are faithful to their intuition. They are not like the traditional Kazakh minstrel, the “Aken”, happy to play simple dombra tunes and sing along to them. Rather, they are looking for a natural conjoining of traditional Kazakh instruments with western instruments. Because, compared with the generation before them, they live in a much more complex world.
In 2008, Mamer returned to Urumqi, and re-formed IZ. After two years, the group came again to Beijing, and many fans were surprised to find that IZ had taken another step forward. Today the music of IZ is darker, graver. It finds its way into the deepest corners of your soul. The metal box that IZ uses for percussion, the discordant notes of the dombra and the massive tension in the guitar distortion make IZ’s music less gently beautiful, but more forceful. The lyrics to IZ’s songs are also more incisive, such as “Your Destination…”, a song that warns of perils to the soul.
In recent years, IZ has found increasing opportunities to play internationally. Collaborating with American banjo master Béla Fleck and with Kazakh Swiss improvisational vocalist Saadet Türköz, and a series of European tours have expanded IZ’s view. At WOMAD UK in 2009, they sold more CDs at their show than any other band.
Despite all this, Mamer’s life has not changed much. He still lives in Urumqi. He still returns frequently to the grasslands and mountains of the Kazakhs of that region, where he finds peace. Mamer says, only in this way can he continue on with a sound that is truly his own.

Basically classic sax-centric and backed by a fusion guitar, modern and very melodic bass playing and rock-steady yet colorful druming, this Melbourne based quartet has been presenting us with their thoroughly enjoyable version of jazz/fusion/world music since their inception in 1999.
The compositions of Glenn Cannon and Tim Wilson stem from diverse musical influences, including jazz, drum ‘n’ bass, Latin, classical, folk and pop music. This ensemble has supported international acts such as The Yellowjackets, and has performed throughout Australia and South East Asia at major jazz festivals including the Java Jazz Festival (Indonesia), Mosaic Music Festival (Singapore), Melbourne International Festival of Jazz, Electric Jazz Festival and the Ultimate Drummers’ Weekend.
Between them, they have toured, performed and recorded with various artists and ensembles including Ray Charles, Incognito, Jerry Lewis, Hugh Jackman, Michael Buble’,James Morrison, Melbourne Symphony Orchestra,Oliva Newton John,Human Nature, Mike Nock, and Bobby Shew.

Girls in Airports is made up of five male musicians, who mix indie-soul, world, afrobeat and Indian raga with cool Scandinavian tones. With their line-up of two horns, keyboards, drum and percussions ensures a free flowing form that can be both dynamic and forceful without being locked too tight in a groove. This young instrumental band received excellent reviews and aslo won a Danish Music-Award for the Best Jazz Crossover CD release. Their music captures the moment through their steamy rhythm, droning saxophones and a contagious energy that allows the music to just be.

Mr HANRIOT holds a Masters Degree in Electronic Engineering and Audio Signal Processing from the University of Nancy, France and a Degree in Professional Music from Berklee College of Music, Boston (USA).
Mr. Hanriot would generally be considered a latecomer to the world of music. After earning his Master’s Degree in Electronics & Digital Audio Processing at the age of 21, his life took an unexpected turn as he sat at the piano for the first time in his life. Then at this late age - 21 years of age, he started studying music and playing the piano.Within only a few years, Fulbright recipient, French pianist pianist, composer, producer and arranger Cedric HANRIOT has performed and recorded with luminaries such as drummer Terri Lyne CARRINGTON (Stevie WONDER, Herbie HANCOCK), bass player John PATITUCCI (STING, Wayne SHORTER), bass player/singer Me’shell NDEGEOCELLO, drummer Cindy BLACKMAN (Lenny KRAVITZ), saxophonist Joe LOVANO, Grammy Awards winning singer DeeDee BRIDGEWATER to name a few.

10.1日晚的真是精彩。
首先要支持一下活动,办得太好了!
接着想发发牢骚。。。本来在深圳能有JAZZ的活动实在是太高兴了!但是10月4号晚上这个我最感兴趣的BAND没看到。。。我要发发牢骚了。。。本来4号下午5点才下了飞机,急急忙忙的打的过关,然后饭也来不及吃就跑到会场,心想还好还差10分钟到8点,还能去一下洗手间再买票去看。。。结果。。。。现场没票卖了。。。我跟工作人员说站票也行啊,只要我能看到。。。。她说挤都挤不进去了。。。我晕!
没办法了,因为不知道自己能不能赶回来看,所以没有提前买票。。想着如果自己赶不回来,不要浪费一个让爱好JAZZ的朋友看演出的机会。。。可是前面听了几场,个人的感觉是会场上充斥了BABY的哭声。。。电话声。。。一些十几二十出头的小孩的喧闹声。。。交谈声。。。闪光灯。。。很多人来看表演是根本不知道什么是JAZZ,所以别人在上面表演,他们有他们的交谈,开玩笑,评价表演水平。。。
根本不知道什么是respect!Respect JAZZ, respect people, respect performers...if you were not respect performers who were totally performed in their best, you shouldn't be here....Here is for people who love Jazz, respect Jazz...if you are not a JAZZ lover, why you spend money to see...Not because you can afford the ticket, so you don't care...I can do what ever I want it...
Wrong, you here because you like Jazz, even you love Jazz, at least you want to enjoy times with performers...not taking out your camers try to take some photos for what? chatting, laughing, crying...please taking outside, don't wasting the time, the seat, coz some people will really love to have, like me...
I know some jazz lovers, like Bibi trys to introduce JAZZ to many more people, I respect that...but please, people who try to know jazz, understand jazz...first of all, please respect jazz!!!
