Wolf Creek is a metalcore band from Wuhan, Hubei, and is considered to be the first metalcore band in Wuhan. Formed in 2005, the band now consists of vocalist Li Li, guitarists Bai Pengfei and Liu Tingyi, bassist Qin Chen, and drummer Gao Kang.



History
In 2003, drummer Gao Kang, guitarists Bai Pengfei and Liu Tingyi started a rock band named Hong with some good friends. Hong won great applause. Later on, they were inspired by some other music genres like extreme metal, thrash metal and metalcore. At the same time they met vocalist Li Li, bassist He Yupeng and another talented guitarist Zou Cong, who have the same passion for these kinds of music. Finally in 2005, Wolf Creek completed its original line up of 6 passionate young men.

From 2005 to 2007, Wolf Creek played many gigs. They could be seen in many metal shows in Wuhan and won numerous fans. However, due to the different attitudes towards music among the band members and some other private reasons, Wolf Creek bogged down at the end of 2007. In 2008, Bai Pengfei, He Yupeng and Zou Cong left.

However, the rest of the members didn’t give up. Li Li kept on composing songs and practicing vocal techniques. Liu Tingyi and Gao Kang tried to recruit new members. In July 2009, bassist Zhang Cheng and guitarist Ye Peng joined the band. On November 7, 2009, Wolf Creek appeared on stage again, supporting a famous black metal band The Illusion of Dawn in VOX. At the beginning of 2010, Ye Peng left the band for his job in another city. Misfortunes never come singly, Zhang Cheng left, too. The band bogged down again until June 2010 when Bai Pengfei rejoined. At the same time, the new bassist Qin Chen joined. Wolf Creek finally entered a period of steady development.



Styles and Influences
Wolf Creek is influenced by the New Wave of American Heavy Metal movement. Being the core member of the band, vocalist Li Li can handle diversified singing styles (screaming, death growl and clean vocal) and composes most of the band’s songs. The band’s compositions focus on heavy breakdowns and melodies. After a period of practice and learning new stuff, Wolf Creek now tends to compose breakdowns with complex rhythms, as well as odd-meter riffs. It also tries to add electronic elements into the songs.

Wolf Creek is generally credited as a metalcore band, and have also been said to share traits of other genres such as melodic metal and thrash deathcore. Their combination of melodic metal, breakneck thrash and pounding breakdowns has seen them elevated to the edge of the new metalcore scene.

Their music is about mythology, coming days of freedom, truth and their thoughts of this society. Most of the original songs are filled with tight instrumental performances, the guitar tag-team of Bai Pengfei and Liu Tingyi seemingly effortlessly unspooling combinations of nimble-fingered solos, soaring dual harmonies and bludgeoning chord progressions while drummer Gao Kang’s inhumanly tight percussive battery keeps the aggressiveness at the forefront of the sound. You'll be surprised when you find your head bobbing to some of the grooving riffs scattered throughout the fusillade of ear-splitting metal, but the band accomplishes a nice variety of sound while maintaining an uncompromising sonic assault.



On September 7, 2010, Wolf Creek support for Japanese metal band Hydrophobia.
On September 9, 2010, Wolf Creek support for Chinese metal band Twisted Machine.
On November 26, 2011, Wolf Creek appeared on Wuhan new metal/metalcore joint show.
