Panel Talk // This Woman's Work: Intersections of Gender and Culture in Contemporary Chinese Art
In conjunction with the exhibition Through the Body, curators Matthew Brower and Yan Zhou will join artists Jin Hua and Yam Lau in a panel talk to discuss the relationships between gender and culture within the practices of Contemporary Chinese Women Artists.

Jin Hua's works are included in many publications and private collections including the public collection of Museum of Contemporary Art in Shanghai (MOCA). She was the Emerging Artist of the 2012 Vancouver Mayor Art in Visual Art; the winner of Canadian SnapStar photo competition (2012), the winner of TOP20 Chinese Contemporary Photographer Award (2011), and she received first place in the Canon Photography Awards in the 2012 Emily Carr Grad Exhibition. She received her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Photography at Emily Carr University of Art + Design in 2012 and is currently studying at Concordia University for a Master of Fine Arts degree in Studio Arts.

Yam Lau’s creative work and research explore new expressions and qualities of space, time and image. His most recent works combine video and computer-generated animation to re-create familiar spaces in varied dimensionalities and perspectives. In addition to his new media work, he is actively involved in the local art community. Certain aspects of his practice, such as using a donkey as an on-going mobile project space in Beijing, China are designed to solicit community participation. The recipient of numerous awards from the Canada, Ontario and Toronto Arts Councils, Professor Lau has exhibited widely across Canada, the US and Europe. He also publishes regularly on art and design. He is represented by Katzman Kamen Gallery in Toronto.
