The most important thing is to be different from others. Do something better than anyone else in the world that's useful to others (even if what you do best has a very tiny niche). Being able to do something that 100 million other people can do, while potentially important, is likely not nearly as valuable as having a skill that is unique.
Of course, certain unique skills will have more value than others. But it is hard to know which skills will and will not have long-term value since the world will change.
One easy way to create a unique skill is to combine two seemingly unrelated skills into one skill. Being the best computer scientist in the world is really hard. Being the person who knows the most about dolphins is really hard. But being the person who best knows about the intersection of software and dolphins is accomplishable. You might end up writing the best software that tracks dolphins. Or you might use your knowledge of how dolphins communicate over long distances to change the way humans communicate.
The ability to learn. Being able to learn new concepts quickly and being able to learn from your mistakes are critical to living. Or the ability to communicate. It doesn't matter what you choose to do with your life, being able to communicate well will always put you at the top of the pile. Other people might be smarter than you, but if you can explain it better than them you will always win.
Self-discipline is the only ability you need to master other skills or develop other habits.
I often see people plagiarising around and say that they don't have other people smart or strong to get what they want in life. The truth is that as long as you are disciplined and have incredible perseverance, you can acquire any skill.
Throughout the year, we all have plans. Some people want to get a good figure and decide to get up at 5 o'clock in the morning. Some people hope that they can become good at speaking and socializing in the big crowd this year. It is our own that prevents us from accomplishing these goals. Our hearts prevent us from waking up early or meeting new people. If we are self-disciplined, then we can press this voice and live our own lives.
I know it's hard for people to learn self-discipline. But if you start learning today and make a little progress every day, then you will eventually control your mind and your body.
