[Repost] Nanjing COT trip of Dec.23rd
Repost from VPPR Emily Cai: [http://www.douban.com/note/254920994/]
Last Sunday, I joined in COT (A3) in Nanjing with Div. Governor. Generally, it was great experience to learn and share.
#To start with, I would like to talk about VPPR Sharing. It was my second time to present it on COT. The first time was on COT (A2) in Xianfeng Bookstore, Dec.16, 2012. Based on my first presentation, I had simplified the question in the last second slide. During the break, I was told that my presentation was advanced due to the absence of another VPPR, and it would last 10+5 min. I agreed and I could manage it, though my speech was prepared in 5-7 min.
In the previous presentation, I learned that leadership gives you a chance of change. Cool, I was about to share VPPR, another change agent and it became with my first sentence. In the second slide, I changed Charles's reply to "We don't have a VPPR" based on the previous presentation.
To add to my presentation, I was thinking of more changes in the club.
1. I enjoy giving handles to everybody. For example, Kungfu Panda Xu (My mentor).
2. It is my honor to witness a guest turning into a member and growing into a senior member.
3. I am an active member and receiving active feedback.
- How long have you joined in Toastmasters?
- Two month.
- Really? You look like a two year Toastmaster.
- Wow, Thank you!
During Q & A session, I was stuck with question how long have you spent on VPPR everyday.
- 24 hours day and night. LOL
I was also asked by Sharon that whether I did all the work myself. I replied with a firm Yes. However, I would like to explain to her in detail later.
Last Monday, I received mentor's comment on my presentation. Mentor proposed two questions, 1. What's my key point? 2. What's my selling points?
Ohhhhh~~~~~~~ sorry, I am not sure ~~~~~~~~ I will think about it when replying to mentor.
#Next comes meeting quality.
I was impressed with the topic of meeting quality. Everybody works so hard to improve the meeting qualify. I am confident that we two clubs can further share and discuss it in the future.
For example, we send our agenda to our members and guests weekly. And the agenda is usually sent in an attachment. Therefore, we need to 1. download the file. 2. Open it and read it. However, Nanjing No.1 Toastmasters Club offers us a good solution. Every week, VPE will make the agenda and send it to Secretary. Secretary will make it a nice poster and everyone will enjoy reading it in the email body. The new agenda includes meeting roles and special awards from last meeting. It will also highlight some meeting features.
I have talked to Nanjing No.1 TMC and he agreed to forward next meeting agenda to us. Cool !
%For Guest to Member converter,
1. Guest book. (Nanjing No.1 TMC shows us a guest book with a beautiful cover.)
2. Member introduction.
3. Events.
4. Network.
5. ........
6. ........
(I need to talk to Nanjing No.1 VPPR for details.)
%For new banner and ribbons,
1. How many ribbons do we have now?
2. Where are the ribbons?
3. Can we get more ribbons?
%For SAA,
1. Single and Available.
2.South Africa Airway
3. Society for abandoned animals
4. What is membership contest coordinator?
%For VPPR discussion,
I had a small discussion Nanjing No.1 TMC VPPR, and it was interesting to hear,
- I am a young VPPR.
- Me too. I am not only a young VPPR but a young Toastmaster.
Then
it reminded me of mentor's word.
- When you are young, you grow,
- When you are old, you rot.
Thank you Kungfu Panda Xu and I shared it with this young VPPR after the meeting. :-D
%From Tina,
1. Leadership gives you a chance of change. (Cannot agree any more!)
2. Lose money. (Me too!)
3. Lose time. (Me too!)
4. More resources.(Right!)
But we are happy with what we are and what we do!!!
Tina encouraged 1 volunteer from each officer group to give a brief report. The two key words are communication and leadership. :-D
%From Sharon,
1. Insert sharing and training session in the agenda.
The sharing and training sessions are likely to benefit our audience and appeal to potential guests.
2. Meeting agenda post / flyer.
Concerning user experience, we could place meeting agenda in the email body with beautiful pictures and description.
3. Meeting quality basic level- intermediate level - advanced level.
I will talk to sharon for details.
4. How to receive our guests? SOP procedure.
(1) How do you know our club?
(2) Guest feedback.
(I remember when I first came to Toastmasters, I proposed that the meeting time and venue was incorrect on Toastmasters International website.)
(3) Be punctual.
(4) Hand shake and applause.
We do it a positive way.
(5) Non-profit, and No commercial ads.
X - social club
X - silly jokes
√ - educational club
(6) Encourage insight speech and develop talent pool
Insight speeches and leadership programs are likely to attract senior members and we can make it a regular program in the meeting by developing talent pool nearby.
