CNNGo: Hong Kong Complaints Choir will go on
More than two-thirds of 'voters' want the musical grumblers to continue, so they will, at the Fotanian this weekend, while we pick out more musical moaning from around the world.
In a demonstration of support for universal suffrage in Hong Kong, the Hong Kong Complaints Choir decided at the beginning of 2010 to let the public vote on whether they should continue to exist -- 69 percent of the voters chose 'yes.'
In their first appearance since the vote, the choir will be performing at the Fotanian this Saturday afternoon. We are all encouraged to come out and participate in the choir to vent our frustrations in this most musical of ways. See more about the performance at the Hong Kong Complaints Choir website.
The first complaints choir started in Birmingham in the United Kingdom in 2006 and the concept has spread to all corners of the globe since. Youtube users have uploaded music videos from complaints choirs around the world, including far-flung places such as Gabriola Island in Canada and Usti nad Labem in the Czech Republic. Ploughing through the lot of them has thrown up some interesting universalities: everyone has issues with their job and the weather no matter where they live.
