Xiao Jing kang
Hello, my name is Kang Kang. At three years old, I was diagnosed as an autistic child. I could only call ‘Mama’ when I was four and a half years old. I am unsure what it means to be ‘autistic’. Mama says I am like a special visitor from outer space: throughout these years, I have been repeatedly creating miracles in their lives. Well, I am not sure what does the word ‘miracles’ mean either. I am better of knowing how to speak, attend school, toast my own bread, make my own meal, take public transport on my own, to shop, to swim, to draw and to write calligraphy.
Just a year ago, I was named as Haidian District’s “Aspiring Youth” (zi qiang bu xi shao nian). Since then, I often tell Mama jokingly that I am almost out of breath (a wordplay on zi qiang bu xi).
I like to draw, and absolutely delight in good food. My dream is to become a chef.
