Sweeten Their Souls - New Composition
A few days ago, I posted one of my favorite quotations from Abdu’l-Baha on facebook. I love this quote especially as it allows me to strive towards a higher standard of conduct.
One of my friends suggested I set it to music as I’m sure it’s a favorite of many. At first I felt quite challenged by the thought of setting it to music but today as a I sat down at the piano and played some chords, I suddenly felt inspired to set those lyrics to a melody. As I was composing the chords on the piano, I sang the lyrics and the words flowed so easily and naturally with the chords. I instantly made a rough recording of the song (so I wouldn’t forget it) and am happy to share it with you below (as well as the lyrics). I particularly enjoy the echos of wisdom from the quotation in the second part of the song (“offer them milk and honey in return, sweeten their souls”) as we are constantly being reminded to rise to greater heights of behavior. I wanted to end on the words, “Sweeten their souls” because those are most striking lyrics of the whole piece.
I have decided to post more compositions in their rough form so that you don’t have to wait to hear a song in it’s final production. Let me know if you think that’s a good idea and what you think of the new composition. :)
The song is entitled, Sweeten their souls:
Quotation:
"If others hurl their darts against you, offer them milk and honey in return; if they poison your lives, sweeten their souls; if they injure you, teach them how to be comforted; if they inflict a wound upon you, be a balm to their sores; if they sting you, hold to their lips a refreshing cup." ~Abdu’l-Baha
