1. What does the band name mean? The Shapers?
Shapers are people who shape surfboards. Actually, we mould music in the same way that pros craft surfboards: with love and passion! As real-life shapers make surfboards to bring fun into the world, we crank out tunes to ensure people enjoy their life!
2. Which other bands influence your music?
Our influences are various.
Our main influences are bands like Blink 182, Green Day, All Time Low, NOFX, SUM 41 as well as old school punk like The Ramones and Sex Pistols. We also find inspiration in bands like the Hives and Arctic Monkeys.
3. Can you tell us about the French music scene? Which styles and genres are most popular? Which other bands should we listen to from FRANCE?
The French Music scene is not punk at all. French Pop music, House, Rap and Electro are the most popular styles in France. However, you could listen to the Plastiscines, they are not so punk, but they sure are cute! ;)
4. What do you guys know about China? Any ideas about the music scene here?
We know it is a huge and beautiful country. Anthony has been taking Chinese classes for four years so he also knows a bit about the Chinese language and history. The movie “Beijing punk” made us really excited about playing in China! The music scene seems to be very underground with crazy crowds. We can’t wait to play in China!
5. You have toured in other countries before. What is the best show you have ever played?
Two excellent concerts spring to mind, where the crowds were wild and we got totally carried away with it.
One of them was for an international biker’s gang meeting. The crowd was crazy, there were stripper girls all around and the atmosphere was so amped we ended up in the middle of a girls wet t-shirt contest.
Another show with an electric atmosphere was in a London apartment we rented for a small trip. Initially we had not planned to do a gig, but one night in a pub we made a bet to bring as many hot chicks into our room as possible, and that ended up in concert. People were so excited and the atmosphere was intense. Half the flat got trashed and our drummer ended up naked in the bathtub.
So be ready for some crazy parties with us after the shows!
6. The worst show ever?
It was a show in a bar in Toulouse (the city where we hail from in France). We were contacted by another band 2 days before the show to play with them, but they hadn’t done much communication about the show so consequently there weren’t a lot of people attending. At the end of the concert, people from the other band asked the waitress for a lot of beers, which she refused to give them. Then a guy from that band started to fight against the owner of the bar... The waitress was crying. It was terrible.
7. You guys are recording an album now? Can you describe the sound of the music? Should we be excited?
Hell yeah you should be excited!! This album’s gonna rock!!
It’s a gnarly mix of Californian and British influences, adding in a touch of French loving. When you listen to it, you’ll be imagining Californian beaches, pumping nightclubs in London or chilling out with your friends in France, all at the same time! We want this album to bring people a good mood, motivation and hope that everything can always change if we act in the good way.
8. What things make you most excited about coming to China?
Besides discovering a beautiful country, a new culture, and an emerging punk atmosphere, we can’t wait to play in a country with so many people. We hope the crowds at our shows will be massive and wild! Oh and of course, the pandas and the gorgeous girls!http://site.douban.com/shapers/http://www.facebook.com/TheShapersOfficial
