From Facebook fan Marisoul Ortiz: If the Battle of the Five Armies were a dance-off, who would win? Love from Mexico.
The Elves. They have the most grace.
From Facebook fan Amanda Matthews: With Benedict, was it easier to act off each other because of your time together on Sherlock, or do you find it hard to change that relationship from best friends to prey and predator? Early Merry Christmas by the way :)
Well, I never worked with him on The Hobbit actually, since he wasn't really there. His part was read in by other people. That was all imagination for both of us, unfortunately.
From Facebook fan Luthien Tinuviell: Do you know that there is a fandom for your middle finger?
No, but throughout my life, there have been lots of fans of my middle finger. Since I was a young man. I'm very pleased that they like it, and I'm very pleased that it has taken off like it has. It was just something I did for fun on set, I didn't think anyone else would see it. Go on and continue on enjoying the finger, thank you.
From Facebook fan Natalia Stadnicka: If you could play any other role, who would it be and why?
Well, I suppose Gandalf is a great role. I couldn't do it as well as Ian McKellen has, but I like the role very much.
From Facebook fan Ryan Studley Dudley: Who has the best beard in Middle-Earth? The world needs to know!
Probably Jed Brophy who plays Nori. He has the most fantastic beard. But all of the dwarves' beards are pretty good in their own way.
From Facebook fan Megan Koerner: Who played the most pranks, if there were any pranks played? Who did you think was the biggest clown on set?
I don't think there were any pranks, everyone was a bit more mindful about not wasting time. Peter Jackson is a bit of a prankster, I guess. I don't know who the biggest clown on set is... probably me. Playing Bilbo kind of allows you to be that!
From Facebook fan Waleed Adel Fouad: What was your favorite scene in the trilogy?
Probably Bilbo and Gollum with the riddles in the dark. I loved doing it, and I loved the way it came out. it was the first thing I filmed, and it helped me gauge where Bilbo was in moments of panic and extreme situations - that scene taught me how to play him in the rest of the three films.
From Facebook fan Missy Giffin: Perfect 2nd breakfast?
Eggs over easy on brown toast.
From Facebook fan Miha Kosi: What is your favourite movie?
The first two parts of The Godfather.
From Facebook fan Nannielion Nunan Zelda: Would you please tell us what happened on the very last day of filming? Did you guys cry?? P.S. I do love you from Thailand!!!
It wasn't very emotional while I was working as I wanted to go home and see my family... until I started saying goodbye to people, and it started to sink in a bit.
From Facebook fan Kirsten Bigelow Caron: What is your favorite thing about hobbits?
They're essentially decent, I think. And trustworthy. That's what I like about them.
From Facebook fan Elijah Kost: Which Middle-Earth film is your favorite?
To be honest, I'm too close to The Hobbit ones, so I'll say The Two Towers.
From Facebook fan Glenn Stein: What did you take from the set?
I took Bilbo's sword, his contract with the dwarves and his dressing gown.
From Facebook fan Danielle Hulsey: What is your favorite line as Bilbo in "The Hobbit" movies?
I like the speech he gives to the dwarves in the first one when he appears out of the trees. The part where he tells Thorin why he wants to help him find his way home. I like that speech quite a lot.
From Facebook fan Althea Cappelli: What is your favorite food? And Bilbo's?
My favorite type of cuisine is Italian. Bilbo's is probably a big ol' side of ham - very old-fashioned, Medieval type of food. But I like Italian.
From Facebook fan Althea Cappelli: Describe Bilbo Baggins in 3 words.
Short. Sexy. Hard.
From Facebook fan Yuka Onohara: What is your favorite part of New Zealand?
I liked Wellington. I lived there for the longest. And even though it's not the most breathtaking in terms of scenic places in the country, there were a lot of great places to eat and get together with friends.
From Facebook fan Geozell Nadine: Who influenced you most in life?
My mum. That's probably the main overarching figure in my life. Someone to encourage me, someone who gave me love and taught me how to love, really.
From Facebook fan Ting-Han Huang: What is your drink of choice? A pint of...? Maybe a Bourbon?
Leffe Blond. A Belgian beer. You have three, and you think wow... I could be in an old beer cellar in Munich.
From Facebook fan Hulya Aslanova: Is there something similar between you and Bilbo? What you like in him and what do you don't?
As I said before, I like that he's decent and trustworthy. I don't like his fussiness. I like his ability to make friends in difficult situations and to give counsel to people. I don't like his feet.
From Facebook fan Sravya Garimella: Hi Martin. How well will Bilbo Baggins and John Watson get along?
I think John Watson would be slightly frustrated at Bilbo for his lack of gumption at first, but then Bilbo comes into his own later on. John would be more "Let's go ahead and do it" while Bilbo would be more hesitant.
From Facebook fan Linda Goddard: What was it like working with Peter Jackson?
It was great. He's a good man, and we had a good short-hand, working relationship. He understood me, and I understood him and what he wanted out of a scene. He helped me satisfy myself too - we both ended up going home happy after a day's work.
From Facebook fan Alessandra Pedroti: Hi Martin :) If I may ask, if Bilbo lived on Earth, what kind of music would he listen to?
He'd probably listen to old English madrigals from the 15th century or something. I don't think Bilbo's very funky, so no jazz or R&B really. More pastoral stuff.
From Facebook fan Weronika Vodickova: Elves or dwarves?
Dwarves. They're more fun. You can have a bit more of a laugh with dwarves.
Thanks everyone for asking your questions! I do hope you enjoy the movie. Thank you for sticking with it for three movies. In years to come, I hope you will find it a fitting beginning for The Lord of the Rings. If you want to sit down and watch three Lord of the Rings movies and three Hobbit movies, then you're well on your way. -MF
